The Psychogenealogist Pic of the Week (#15)
Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.
The cuteness factor of this photograph is off the charts. It is hard to top a vintage "smiling girl and puppy" image. It is another random eBay acquisition. There are no identifying marks on the back.
When we think about genealogy and family history we usually focus on the humans. Any pet owner knows, however, that our animal friends often play a big role in our family stories. In "Blind Cornelius Kelly and the Beauty of Gaelic Prayer" I learned about a loyal cocker spaniel named "Judge" in my own family's past.
As you think about your own family history consider some of these questions:
Questions:
How did pets play a role in your family?
What are some of the animal stories passed down to you through the generations?
What do you think about, feel, or wonder when you look at the photo above?
Any guesses as to the year or location of "Smiling Girl with Puppy"?
What stories will you tell to your kids and grandchildren about the pets that have been part of your family.
Do you have an old photograph or a genealogical story that you would like to share? I am happy to consider guest submissions for possible Pic of the Week or other blog posts in the future. Send an email to info@psychogenealogist.com for more information.
