The Psychogenealogist Pic of the Week (#21)
Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.
This week we have a fun one. While there were no markings on it, it came from a collection of other photos that were mostly labelled as 1920 and 1921. They were all pasted on black paper and appeared to be from a photo album at some point.
Here we have two young women, presumably on a farm, standing on their hands in front of a towering pile of straw.
There is a playfulness to it that is sometimes hard to find in pictures of this era. These women are having a good time and they wanted to document it. It is the type of goofy picture that you might find in your Facebook feed today!
Questions:
- How did your ancestors express their playfulness in photos?
- What motivated these women to take such a picture?
- Who were the funniest people in your family tree?
- Several years after this photo was likely take was the Great Depression. How did lives of these women change?
- What is the funnies photo you have come across when researching your own family history?
Do you have an old photograph or a genealogical story that you would like to share? I am happy to consider guest submissions for possible Pic of the Week or other blog posts in the future. Send an email to info@psychogenealogist.com for more information.
