The Psychogenealogist Pic of the Week (#28)
Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.
There is nothing fancy about this week's pic. The photo conveys a serene mood. The paper it was printed on suggests the 1950s. It is hard to tell, but the tree and fence appear to be iced over. It is winter, or late fall, and this pensive woman is taking a stroll. Her scarf, jacket, and gloves protect her against the chill. She is not posing, but is aware of the photographer's presence.
Over the past week I have been digitizing an old album photo of my grandmother's. It was mostly filled with formal studio photographs of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The photos were outstanding, but there is something quite refreshing about this very informal and candid shot.
Sometimes the best photos are the simplest ones.
Questions:
- Who is this woman?
- Where is she at?
- Who is taking the picture?
- What do you think, feel, or wonder about as you look at the photo?
Do you have an old photograph or a genealogical story that you would like to share? I am happy to consider guest submissions for possible Pic of the Week or other blog posts in the future. Send an email to info@psychogenealogist.com for more information.
