The Psychogenealogist Pic of the Week (#25)
Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.
Here is quite a contrast to last week's photograph from a frigid Canadian winter in 1942. Fast forward about 15 years and this week we have a lovely poolside summer scene. Presumably this is a father and daughter. The back of this photo is labelled "Lake Arrowhead" with a date of June, 1956.
Is this what is now the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa in California? That seems to be the most probable place. Here is an article about the history of Lake Arrowhead described as: "Nestled in the magnificent San Bernardino National Forest, surrounded by pine, cedar, and dogwood, at an altitude of 5100', an area described as the 'Alps of Southern California.'"
There are other "Lake Arrowhead" place references throughout the county, but none featured as prominently as the location in California.
Questions:
- Who are the people in the picture?
- Where are they at?
- Was your family able to take regular summer vacations?
- How did travel, respite, and relaxation impact the mood and mental health of your ancestors?
- What about families who did not have those opportunities?
- What do you think, feel, and wonder about as you look at this photograph?
- Have you been to Lake Arrowhead? What's it like?
Do you have an old photograph or a genealogical story that you would like to share? I am happy to consider guest submissions for possible Pic of the Week or other blog posts in the future. Send an email to info@psychogenealogist.com for more information.
