Rebecca Rhoads Seese (1859-1940)

Rebecca Rhoads Seese (1859-1940) is my 3rd great aunt. Her older brother, John M. Rhoads (1852-1919), was my 2nd great grandfather. Here is a beautiful photograph of Rebecca with her husband, George Washington Seese (1849-1923).

Rebecca (Rhoads) and George Seese

The photograph was in in the collection of my great grandmother, Ida Rhoads Sears (1900-2002). The notes on the photo appear to be in Ida’s hand. The notes “Dad’s Sister” and “Uncle Geo” describe the correct relationships Ida has to these two people.

Here is a photograph of Rebecca when she was younger, also in my great grandmother’s collection.

Rebecca comes from a large relatively well documented line in my family tree. Here are just some of the highlights:

  • She was born on January 15, 1859 in Sidman, Pennsylvania.

  • She married George in 1879.

  • Rebcecca and George had about 14 children in 20 years.

  • Her lifelong home was in Cambria County, PA.

  • She died on October 18, 1940.

Here obituary from October 19, 1940 was posted on her Find a Grave memorial. I am not sure what newspaper it is from.

Rebecca is buried at the Salix Evangelic Church Cemetery in Salix, PA. A small cemetery, it sits across from Post Office, at the corner of Forest Hills and Oakridge Dr.

This is the 37th of 52 weekly posts planned for 2018. It was inspired by the #52Ancestors writing challenge issued by professional genealogist, Amy Crow Johnson. The challenge: once a week, for all 52 weeks of the year, write about a relative in your family tree.
