Pic of the Week (#122) - German Boy Celebrates with Chocolates and Paints
Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.
I was intrigued by this photograph I found in an antique store. My guess is that is of German origin. It came from the same stack of photos as Pic of the Week (#84) and Pic of the Week (#86). It seems even possible that this is of the same family and same event.
The boy in the photograph appears to be around 10 years of age. There are MANY clues in the photo if you zoom in. For example, I see what looks like a Santa Claus figure in front of the boy’s right hand.
There are several types of desserts or candies on the table. If you look real close one of the boxes says “Sarotti”. Indeed, the script on “Sarotti” matches a brand of German chocolate. You can also see “Reichardt”, which is another brand of German chocolate.
Another box says “Malkasten” (German for “paintbox”) written on what appears to be a an outline of a paint palette. There are a few other items on the table I can’t quite identify. Can you?
On the wall is a large rectangular painting above a small oval portrait of a young child. There is a clock that indicates it is 10:33 (presumably in the morning, but who knows).
There is an interesting tray standing on the table that appears to have a variety of flags and emblems on it. What do you think it is?
My best guess is that this is a birthday party or a Christmas celebration, but I would love to hear what you think. Here are some questions to consider:
Questions:
Who is this boy and what is his story?
What year is it?
What is being celebrated and where?
What do you think, feel, and wonder about has you look at the photograph?
I don’t have the original photo anymore because I sent it out as one of the FREE GIFTS recently. If you would like yours just click the link below!
