Professor John M. Harrington (1893-1967) of Michigan Technological University - Family Artifact Challenge (Day 26)
This obituary for Professor John M. Harrington (1893-1967) was likely saved and laminated by my great aunt (and our family’s historian) Beverly Hanley Mansour (1929-2009). John is my first cousin twice removed.
As the obituary states, he was a well known professor at the Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. He was a former head of the Department of Mathematics there. By some he was described as, “one of the greatest teachers to serve on the Michigan Tech faculty.”
John’s mother was Annie Kelly Harrington (1868-1951). She was a half sister to my great grandfather, Michael John Hanley (1890-1964). They shared a mother, my 2nd great grandmother, Ellen Sullivan Kelly Hanley (1850-1938). Annie’s father was Michael Kelly (1842-1879). I have very little information about Michael Kelly. Michael Hanley’s father was Patrick Hanley (1857-1923), my 2nd great grandfather.
