Oliver E. Myers (1873-1935) Expires At Home From Paralysis
After years of searching, of and on, I somehow just now stumbled upon the obituary of my 2nd great grandfather, Oliver Edgar Myers (1873-1935). He was the biological father of Arthur B. Sears (1900-1964), my great grandfather. Oliver died in Washington, Indiana. This obituary was published in the Washington Herald (IN) on January 22, 1935.
Oliver has always been a shadowy figure in my family’s story. As far as anyone knew he played no real role in my great grandfather‘s life. In fact, Oliver’s son Arthur was adopted by his step-father and took his surname, Sears (see: John Alfred Sears, 1860-1951).
Nonetheless, it is sad to me that there is no mention of Oliver’s first wife, Clara Rachel Mile/Myers Sears (1875-1934). She is Arthur’s mother and my 2nd great grandmother.
This confirms what has long been assumed, that as far as Oliver was concerned, his son Arthur never existed.
I’ve never seen a photo of Oliver, but finding this information gives me some hope that I might be able to.
Here’s a photo of his first wife, Clara.
