Epaminondas Tsardoulias (Born 1863) and Family of Samos, Greece

This is my 1st cousin 4 times removed, Epaminondas Tsardoulias (b. 1863), and his wife Marianthe Mavrogeorgou Tsardoulias (1883-1960). They were married in 1902 on the island of Samos, Greece perhaps in the village of Mytilinioi. The photo was taken in about 1946.

Here is another photo of Epaminondas and Marianthe.

The father of Epaminondas, Nikalaos Tsardoulias (1830-1879), was a brother to my 3rd great grandfather, George Tsardoulias (b. 1825).

I have connected with the grandson of Epaminondas, my 3rd cousin 2x removed, who provided me with these photos. He and I knew of our genetic connection through DNA a few years before we were able to make the paper trail connection.

The next photo was taken several to many years earlier, also in the village of Mitilinioi. The man standing 2nd in from the left is, again, the Epaminondas Tsardoulias shown in the first photo. His wife, Marianthe, is in center. Further right is their daughter, Erasmia Tsardoulias and her husband, George Fotiou.

The couple seated is thought to be the mother and father of Marianthe, Euleshea (or Eftihia) Kogohon (or Kagokos) and George Mavogeorgeon. The woman appears to be the same as the one pictured below who has more confidently been identified as Euleshea.

Euleshea Kogohon

Here is a studio photograph of the couple on the right of the group photo, George Fotiou and Erasmia Tsardoulias.

It is possible, though not confirmed, that the boy pictured on the far left of the group photo is a son of Epaminondas, George Tsardoulias (b. 1913). Here is a photo of George as a young man and another of his wife, Eleni Stefani Tsardoulias (1922-2012).

As is often the case when writing about the Greek branch in my family tree, names and places may have various spellings and interpretations. For example, the Tsardoulias (Τσαρδούλιας in Greek) name has been seen as Chardoulias and Chardoul in the United States. There is also often some confusion between the village Mitilinioi (Μυτιληνιοί) on the island of Samos (Σάμος) and Mitilini (Μυτιλήλη), the Greek city on the island of Lesbos. The family discussed here most certainly comes from the village on Samos.
