If you’ve followed The Psychogenealogist for any period of time you know there is a special place in my heart for Kodachrome photo slides.
This delightfully quirky capture does not disappoint. It was a recent ebay acquisition.
A somewhat disheveled looking man sits with a with a Canada Goose propped on his lap. A newspaper protects his already sullied trousers. There are what appear to be two shotguns laying on the sofa to his left. A vintage freezer sits behind?

We can tell by the red bordered Kodachrome photo slide that this image is probably from sometime between 1955 and 1959. Written on the back is “At Martins. Crawford CO, PA”.

Here is a brief history of Crawford County, located in the northwest corner of the state.
It seems reasonable to assume that this photo was taken on some sort of hunting excursion. Although, the goose in question seems very much alive with his head and neck held strong and taut.
I never anticipated that my interest in genealogy and family history would lead me to learning about the history of Canada geese. But here we are. And here are two interesting articles about it:
