Five Hats, Five Stories: The Mystery Women of Osceola

Find Their Story #7

Here is a lovely cabinet card photograph of five women, presumably sisters, from Osceola, Iowa donning delightful hats.

The notes on the back appear to be written by a descendant long after the photo was taken. Unfortunately it does not appear to include a last name. The notes read: Harriet Julia (Grandma Twins), Aunt Gertrude Marrian, Aunt Blanche Olive, Aunt Ester (oldest), Margaret Jane (twins).

The photographer from Osceola, Iowa has a surname of Smith. The monogram in the center/bottom of the card suggests the initials are either M.A.S. or A.M.S. A very quick search for this photographer was unsuccessful.

What can you tell me about these women, their hats, or their stories!

I encourage you to share what you discover! Feel free to comment below or reach out via email.
